How to make your husband happy

I knew that he was having a hard time at work, so I decided to do something special for dinner. I was at partycity picking up a birthday card and I saw some fun Fiesta placemats and that gave me the idea. I probably spent $17 on fun decor and added chilli powder to whatever I was already planning on making for dinner.

Jonny was really touched when he saw the fun set up. I think that it really made his day...and brought us closer together.

Agate wire wrapped pendent

Craft #3

After a night of wire wrapping, the end result is quiet good. I used a beautiful Agate bead that is about 1.25" by 3/4".

Here are the basic ingredients:

Bead (although I didn't put anything through the whole), 20 Gage square dead soft wire, 20 Gage half-round wire, masking tape, and various tools.

I use masking time to measure the size of the bead.

I cut the square wire to be about 1.5" longer then the measured masking tape. 4 pieces.

Sweet Tofu Dessert

Craft #2

Although I've made this before, I tried something new by adding a few tablespoons of jam.

Cut up tofu and place in water (I put too much water in the pot so I ended up boiling it for a few extra hours to reduce it). Add a bunch of sugar(I use splenda) and jam to flavor. You can't add too much. Boil until tofu is as sweet as you want it.

Trip to JPL

Last Thursday, August 6th, I visited JPL with Rebecca(Jame's girlfriend). She's never been there, so I went with her on a tour. It was kind of cool because we went to see a few places I've never been to....like the place where they do the flight box testing and the new mission control room.

Picnic outside lunch up on the hill by the testing place. Boy did I get plenty of exercise that day.

The new mission control room:

"oh look how cool" it's all space stuff.

I was there too:

Macadamia & cocanut cookies

Craft #1

A few days ago after a bad day at work, I decided to do something fun....so I made cookies. Jonny was so wonderful in going to the grocery store at 9pm to get me eggs.

The recipe was from my Williams and Sanoma Cookie book.

First, I gathered the materials....and electron wanted to help.

Mix the dry ingredients for the crust in a blender and add butter.

Spread the crumbs as a crust and bake. This was a very interesting technique. In the end most of the crumb stuck together.

I used two pans to double the recipe. I'm glad I did because there would have been too little otherwise.

Adding eggs. It was very hot in the kitchen.

The top of the cookie was a Carmel like mixture with nuts and cocanut. It called for light corn suryp, but I substituted half of it with honey in an attempt to make it healthier.

Good job Julia!

Yummy in the oven:

All ready to go to JPL:

Personally, I thought it was too sweet...but they were all gone by the end of the day.

Craft

I, personally, define a craft as anything that one makes himself or herself.

This year my goal is to make as many crafts as I can before I start a masters program in the fall of 2010.

The end of a long day

So I'm finally going to sleep. It's 4am and I didn't mean to stay up this late.....oops. That's what happens when night and darkness don't always mean sleep. I just heard electron open up the closet door and climb out. He's so cute.

One of the interesting things about my job is that when I drive to work I have no idea what's going to happen. Even if I worked the night before, I can't for sure predict what will happen. I can have a very easy going night, I can be running around stressed, I can witness a very sick person get better, I can have a pt get worse, or someone might die. Each day is completely different and it's always a surprise. I mentioned this to a coworker and he said that he finds this very exciting. Personlly I don't like it. Honestly, if someone would give me an oppertunity to do something else in nursing, I might seriously take it. But I'm not giving up....I'm still determined to be good at this one.

Well, goodnight. After taking a shower, I'm ready for sleep.

Horrible night at work

Last night was one of the hardest shifts at work. It was just one thing over the other. It started out pretty good, but then I transfered one pt, got an ER admit whom I had to code rapid response because his BP from the beginning was really low, and then less than an hour after that I already had another transfer. Thankfully that transfer was from another unit and she was stable and easy. When I finally sat down to chart around 5am (yes, I was charting the 8pm assessments at 5am), I get a phone call that one of my pt's is complaining of a swollen arm. I take a look and his entire hand and forearm are completely swollen from an infiltrated IV. Since this is somthing I've never seen before, I called over one of the senior nurses. At the end of the night, everything did get done and everyone was stable, but I left finally at 9am feeling completely exhasted and insufficient. I was tired at the beginning of shift to start with and all I wanted was an easy stress-free night....well the universe had another plan for me. When I was leaving, all I wanted was to get a hug from my Jonny and RELAX finally. Well I got to relax right away, but I had to wait till much later to get my hug (which was wonderful!). The begest thing I learned was that I need to learn more....I need to go back and review meds and a bunch of other things. Several times last night I felt like I should have known somthing and I didn't. That feeling of insufficiensy is not a good feeling. Well, I guess I got something to do for the next couple of weeks. Right now I'm just going to forget work and concentrate on the rest of my life. I have 2 days off and I'm excited.

Saturday with Jonny

On Saturday we made a salad from tomatoes and cucumbers from grandparents garden. Isn't it so beautiful?

Here is Jonny chopping up onions for a broccoli soup (green mush).

That evening we did laundry together at the laundrymat. Hopefully, this will be the last time. Even though it was just laundry, it was still very romantic to spend the time together.

After, Jonny got a slurppe
